Joe Thomas is Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Vertafore Benefits. Joe joined our team in August 2005 and has over 11 years of experience in the sales and marketing of technology solutions to the group insurance and human resource (HR) markets. Most recently, he was Director of Sales for Comm5 Web Systems, the developers and service providers of the benefitsCONNECT [sm] system. Prior to his employment at Comm5, he held sales and management positions with ADP, Lawson Software and a Microsoft Great Plains Partner. He is an active member of Sales & Marketing Executives (SME), Human Resource Professionals of MN (HRP) and National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). Joe holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Markus Waite is Vice President of Technology for Vertafore Benefits. He is an experienced development manager with an extensive background in the healthcare industry in both the public and private sectors. Previous to Vertafore, Markus co-founded HR Software Solutions (HRSS), a benefits administration software company focused on solving the self-billing problems of employers. Prior to HRSS, he was a consultant representing Microsoft Consulting Services where he served various high-profile clients. Additionally, he started WSI, his own consulting business, focused on database optimization and development for many large companies in Atlanta, GA. Markus began his career with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) as a systems engineer in their State Operations Division. Markus holds a degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia as well as various certifications from Microsoft.

Cathy Powell is the Director of Operations for Vertafore Benefits, overseeing all operational areas including Product Implementation, Training, Support, Broker Relations, and Software Quality Assurance. She possesses an extensive background in the fields of Client Services, Insurance, and Technology. Prior to joining Vertafore Benefits, Cathy held several positions with a major U.S. financial services institution, most recently with ITCO, the technology division of USAA. She is a member of both the National Association of Insurance Women and the Tampa Association of Insurance Professionals. Cathy holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
